Blanchelande College

An independent Catholic school for boys and girls aged 4-16 in Les Vauxbelets, Guernsey.

The Headmaster, Robert

All our pupils, whether Catholic or not, benefit from knowing that ‘each of us is the result of a thought of God’, infinitely important and with unique talents that Blanchelande exists to nurture.

Founded in 1902 as a small school for girls, Blanchelande today has over 300 boys and girls from Reception to GCSE. The school offers an excellent academic and co-curricular education which fosters joyful, confident and successful pupils.

Blanchelande’s rural setting is glorious: acres of space for children to explore; sports pitches on-site; the Little Chapel down the lane; chickens, ducks and cows as our neighbours. We have ambitious plans for development too, including a £2m sports hall that has just received planning approval.

Infants (age 4-7)

Blanchelande’s infant school is for boys and girls aged 4-7. Reception and Years 1 and 2 are housed in a cottage with its own playground, forest school and specialist staff.

Juniors (age 8-11)

Blanchelande’s junior school is for boys and girls aged 8-11. Years 3 to 6 are housed in the main school where the curriculum broadens to include specialist teaching in Languages, Music and Art. All boys and girls transfer automatically at 11+ to the senior school.

Seniors (age 11-16)

Blanchelande’s senior school is for boys and girls aged 11-16. Pupils in Years 7-9 follow a broad academic curriculum before commencing 10 or more GCSEs from Year 10.

High aspirations

We are committed to academic excellence for all our pupils. We believe in the enduring value of handwriting, accurate spelling, punctuation and grammar, and learning great poetry by heart. We also believe that the best path to examination success is an imaginative curriculum that embraces ‘the best that has been known and thought’ in human civilisation, with clearly structured tasks and dedicated teaching to make our rich cultural heritage accessible to all pupils. From pre-historic to Roman and Norman times through to the German Occupation, Guernsey has developed a fascinating identity of its own, influenced but not overwhelmed by its mighty neighbours. That is all part of a Blanchelande education.

Boys and girls can join the School at age 4 (into Reception) or at age 11 (into Year 7), and often into other year groups, where places permit.
